Two Cork City fans get 'lifetime bans' after aiming vile chants at Stephen Bradley

Two Cork City fans have been handed immediate lifetime bans by the club after "directing abuse" at Shamrock Rover's manager Stephen Bradley last week.

The incident happened last Friday 26 May at Turner's Cross after Cork's 1-0 win over Shamrock Rovers. Bradley was walking back across the pitch after a post-match interview, when Cork supporters started chanting at him from a pub which overlooks the pitch.

The vile chants were aimed at the manager's nine-year-old son Josh who has undergone treatment for leukaemia. In an update today, Cork City FC has confirmed it has given two individuals lifetime bans.

Cork City FC confirmed said that the two fans who were identified using CCTV and GoPro footage, have been banned for life from Turner's Cross following the incident. A spokesperson for Cork City FC said: "Cork City FC can confirm that two individuals have received lifetime bans from Turner’s Cross as a result of their actions after last week’s game against Shamrock Rovers.

"Both persons have admitted their involvement in directing abuse at Shamrock Rovers manager Stephen Bradley and have apologised for their behaviour.

"Investigations into the matter by the relevant authorities are ongoing and Cork City FC has offered our full support and cooperation with this process. The club wishes to reiterate its zero tolerance policy with regard to abuse of this nature.

"We also commend all of those who have shown their support and solidarity with Stephen Bradley and his family in the aftermath of this incident. " Cork owner Dermot Usher told Claire Byrne Today that the chants "crossed the line", and that most Cork fans condemned the incident.

He said: "I think as any parent, you can imagine your nine year old child going through what he's going through and the family, how raw that it is, and to have that being shouted you as abuse. It just completely crosses the line."

Meanwhile, an unofficial podcast run by club supporters called the Other Three Amigos which has received the approval of the Bradley family, set up an online fundraiser for two charities connected with children's cancer.
