Two colleagues lured to fake Dalkeith party and 'held hostage' over £3,000 debt

Two men were 'held 'hostage' in Dalkeith last night after being lured to a property in the early hours of the morning, it has been claimed.

Sources allege that two work colleagues were invited to a fake party at Woodburn Drive around 2am on Sunday morning (August 2) but were held at knifepoint shortly after arriving.

The men were held at the property over a supposed £3000 debt that belonged to another colleague, and were held in the home against their will for hours.

It has been alleged the hostages' boss was contacted while they were held against their will, in a bid to have him pay the £3000.

After a terrifying and lengthy ordeal, those holding the men are reported to have stolen one of their company vans, which was later recovered by police on Eskdaill Street in the town.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report that a van had been stolen from the Dalkeith area around 7.40am on Sunday, 2 August, 2020.

"The van has since been recovered. Enquiries are at an early stage and remain ongoing."
