Two city centre favourites announce closures

A popular city centre cafe and a Dublin restaurant have both announced their closures today.

Joe's Coffee in Arnotts department store on Abbey Street announced its closure with 'heavy hearts'. Cafe bosses Peaches and Domini wrote a lengthy statement on social media thanking staff, suppliers and customers.

Joe's was established in 2013 in Arnotts, just inside the Abbey Street entrance to the department store. It became known for serving quality coffee from micro roasters. Other items on the menu at Joe's include cookies, brownies and sandwiches.

The statement read: "We absolutely loved being part of the specialty coffee world and enjoyed the experience with you immensely. We also got to share some great and unique Joe's pastries, sandwiches and smoothies with you!

"We'd like to thank all our wonderful staff who have worked with Joe's over the years! What an amazing bunch you have been.

"We'd like to thank the amazing Ralf Rüller of The Barn in Berlin - who has taught us so much and become a close friend! Wherever you see coffee from The Barn, get it!"

Finishing the announcement with thanks to the customers who have visited Joe's over the years, they wrote: "You have been a joy to serve and we have loved chatting to you about all things coffee. The Joe's journey has been an amazing one - and we hope it is not quite over yet!"

Meanwhile Table Wine, a restaurant at Pleasant's Place in the south inner city, announced that it will serve its last customers on November 19. The eatery came to the decision "with everything the way it is" currently.

A statement posted to social media reads: "The decision was very very hard, but we need to give time and space for our amazing team to find other places to go and be amazing in! And to be responsible with how we wind down service in an environment that is ultimately incredibly difficult to trade in.

"We truly feel we have one of the funnest, most solid, dynamic and creative teams in any restaurant in Ireland, they have been super understanding of the overall situation and their support has been incredible and heartwarming."
