Two Chinese World Cup fans robbed at gunpoint in Mexico City

  • Two Chinese football fans, Wang Kun and Li Zhe, were carjacked and robbed at gunpoint shortly after arriving in Mexico City on 10 June.
  • Masked assailants on a motorbike intercepted their vehicle, stealing luxury watches, cash, passports, bags, and laptops.
  • The victims, who had travelled to Mexico for the World Cup, returned to China within 48 hours of the incident.
  • The Chinese embassy confirmed one suspect has been arrested and is demanding a swift investigation from local authorities.
  • The embassy has issued a warning to Chinese citizens travelling to Mexico, advising against carrying large amounts of cash or valuables.
