Two children test positive to coronavirus in NT's Howard Springs facility

Two new coronavirus cases have been recorded in the Northern Territory's Howard Springs quarantine facility related to travellers returning on Commonwealth repatriation flights.

An eight-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy who arrived in Darwin on a flight from New Delhi on November 24 tested positive and remain in quarantine at Howard Springs.

More than 1,300 international travellers have undertaken mandatory quarantine at the Howard Springs facility since repatriation flights began on October 23.

There have been 28 positive cases confirmed from repatriation flights into the Northern Territory.

The total number of cases reported in the NT is now 62.

All cases are linked to international or interstate travel, and there has been no community transmission in the NT.

Last week the Northern Territory recorded its single-largest daily rise in coronavirus cases — with six new diagnoses from people returning from India on a repatriation flight.

People returning to Australia on international flights arranged by the Federal Government are taken directly to the Howard Springs facility, where they stay in a separate area to any domestic travellers in quarantine.

Repatriation flights from France and Germany are scheduled to touch down in Darwin in coming months — in addition to continued flights from London and India.
