Two children suffer minor injuries in fence collapse near school in Buwell

Two children suffered minor injuries after a fence collapsed on them near a school in Bulwell.

The incident occurred on a footpath between Cernan Court and Apollo Drive, next to Hempshill Hall Primary School, on the morning of Thursday, July 22.

It is now understood two children were involved in the incident, where a number of fence panels belonging to a private property collapsed, but their injuries were only "very minor".

Residents in the area said the incident was not serious and, as a result, explained no emergency services attended.

Nottingham City Council says its workers attended because the debris was blocking a public footpath and temporary metal fencing has been put up in its place.

A Nottingham City Council spokesman added: “We were relieved to hear that both children involved in the incident today are fine and only suffered very minor injuries.

"We were called out first thing after a report that fence panels had fallen over close to a school in Bulwell.

"This fence is privately-owned and its maintenance is the responsibility of homeowners. However, we have removed the broken panels to clear the footpath and make it safe."

It is not understood how the fencing collapsed and school leaders said no more detail would be given.

A spokeswoman for the school said: "The fence is not school property; it's not on our actual property.

"We have obviously spoken to the parents of the child that was affected."

Work to remove the debris and make the scene safe took place earlier on Thursday, and has since been completed.
