Two children rushed to hospital after taking banned vitamin supplement for DARE

Two school pupils have been rushed to hospital after taking a banned vitamin supplement for a DARE.

The children in Year 7, who are aged 11 or 12, swallowed the pills on Friday morning and fell ill in class.

Ambulance crews dashed to Nunnery Wood High School, in Worcester, just before 11am and took the children to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

They pair were treated and later discharged.

Headteacher Steve Powell said: "On Friday morning, staff identified two of our youngest students who had potentially taken a vitamin supplement as a dare.

"Although these students showed no symptoms, paramedics were called as a precaution.

"Paramedics advised the students' parents to take them to A and E so that they could be monitored.

"I'm glad to say that the students are absolutely fine."

He added that the pills were a vitamin B supplement that is not licensed in this country, but legal elsewhere, and they had been bought online.

Mr Powell added the pupils were able to return to school, which teaches 1,300 pupils aged 11-16 and rated 'Good' by Ofsted, on Monday.

West Mercia Police also confirmed they had launched an investigation.

A spokesperson said: "We have looked into this incident and no criminal offences were found.

"We are liaising with the school in relation to pupil safety going forward and to deter incidents of this nature from happening again."
