Two children injured in house explosion airlifted to Bristol hospital

Two children injured in a house explosion in Wales have been airlifted to Bristol with serious injuries.

South Wales Police confirmed the kids were transported by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital.

While an adult was taken by ambulance to Morriston Hospital in Swansea, reports Wales Online.

South Wales Police received numerous reports of an explosion at a property in Church Road, Seven Sisters at 2.05pm today (Wednesday, June 24).

A spokeswoman said: "The road will remain closed overnight and diversions are being put in place.

"Around 14 properties have been evacuated and Neath Port Talbot Council have opened a rest centre with full support for these residents.

"The cause of the explosion is under investigation."

Several properties and vehicles in the street were also damaged in the blast.

The incident is "ongoing" and South Wales Police are asking people to avoid the area.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “I was gonna working in the garden and heard it and thought ‘what’s that’ - the whole house shook.

“It was a huge bang.”

Councillor Rob Jones, leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, said: "I was shocked and upset to hear the distressing news from Seven Sisters this afternoon.

"My thoughts and those of my council colleagues are with those who were injured in the explosion, and we hope and pray that they make a full and speedy recovery.

“I know that Seven Sisters is a close-knit community, and that many will be feeling a mixture of shock and sadness at this time.

“I would like to thank the emergency services for their swift response and regular updates on the situation. The council stands ready to offer whatever support is required.”
