Two children found in car on M6 with drink driver almost three times the limit

Two children were found in a car on the motorway driven by a man almost three times the drink-drive limit.

Officers from Cheshire Police were called to help the driver of the vehicle which had broken down on the M6 at Thelwall Viaduct, Warrington , yesterday evening.

But according the North West Motorway Police (NWMP), which consists of officers from local forces, the driver was breathalysed and provided a reading of 93 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath - whereas the legal limit is 35 micrograms.

To make matters worse, officers found the children, aged eight and 10, in the vehicle.

A tweet from the force said: "Broken down Vehicle Thelwall Viaduct #M6 Southbound #MS26 @CheshireRCU attended to assist the driver...

"Male has provided a positive breath test with a reading of 93 (Legal Limit is 35) .

"We'll be taking the 8 & 10 year old children in the vehicle off the network & contacting Mum."

Twitter users responded with disgust.

@Riding_The_Nw said: "I’m lost for words! Almost 3 times the limit and with children in the car."

The NWMP account responded: "I think our officers were too."

Kevin Berne said: "Throw away the key! Gotta be a negligence issue. You should be informing more than the mother."

The police account replied: "It's in hand Kevin."

@JustaCopper99 said: "This is outrageous. I can't stand drink drivers at the best of times, but with your children in the car? Are you an actual idiot? Don't do it."
