Two charged over Heathrow Airport 'pepper spray suitcase robbery'

Two men have been charged in connection with an alleged pepper spray attack and suitcase robbery at Heathrow Airport.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, have each been charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of administering a noxious substance after an incident at the London airport on Sunday, HM Courts and Tribunal Service staff said.

They are due to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Ambulance crews treated 21 people, including a three-year-old child, who had been reportedly hit with a noxious spray in a multi-storey car park at Terminal 3.

Five people were taken to hospital, all of whom have since been discharged.

Before the attack, two women were allegedly robbed of their suitcases after they got out of the car park lift, police said previously.

The men said to have robbed them sprayed what is believed to be pepper spray, which then affected others nearby.

As part of the Met investigationt wo womem, aged 23 and 57, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. They were later released on bail pending further enquiries.

A 31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of affray remains in police custody.
