Two charged after raids uncover cannabis set-ups

Two men have been charged with drug supply offences after a large amount of cannabis was allegedly found in the Hunter and Lake Macquarie this week.

It comes after Strike Force Jinker was set up in July to investigate the commercial supply of cannabis in Port Stephens and the Lower Hunter.

Police executed three search warrants at Beresfield, Vacy and Jewells on Monday.

During the raids, investigators allegedly found and dismantled hydroponic set-ups in varying sizes at all three locations - seizing 162 plants and 5kg of cannabis bud.

Police also seized drug paraphernalia, nun chucks, ammunition and firearm parts.

A 67-year-old man was arrested at the Beresfield home. He was charged with taking part in enhanced indoor commercial cultivation of cannabis.

A 48-year-old man was arrested during the Lake Macquarie search. He was charged with supplying a prohibited drug and cultivating an indictable quantity of cannabis.

Both men were granted bail and will face court on October 13.

Police said Strike Force Jinker's investigations were continuing, with further arrests anticipated.
