Two charged after baby shot in the head with an air rifle

Two people have been charged after a one-year-old baby was shot in the head with an air rifle.

Jordan Walters, 24, and Emma Jane Horseman, 23 of Bishport Avenue, Bristol, have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

Neither of the people charged is related to the child.

Detective Inspector Jonathan Deane said on Saturday: "We're not looking for anyone else in connection with what happened and at the time we are treating this as a potentially negligent act."

The baby, Harry Studely, remains in critical condition at Bristol Children’s Hospital with a serious head injury.

Emergency calls were made at 4:10pm on Friday to a flat on Bishport Avenue after neighbours reported hearing a child screaming.

Detective Inspector Deane said: "We believe he child received the severe injury from one pellet discharged from an air weapon.

"Our focus is very much on unraveling the full circumstances leading up to this tragedy."

The child's parents, Amy Allen and Edward Studley, said: "We very much appreciate the support of our family, friends and local community at this very difficult time.

"We are concentrating our focus on our son Harry's recovery and would appreciate if we could have our privacy respected in order to allow us to do so."

Officers have thanked the community for their patience while extensive inquiries are carried out.
