The 21-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Monday along with a man after an alleged police pursuit that began on Old Maitland Road at Cessnock and ended when the Subaru containing the pair crashed at Ironbark Lane, Nulkaba.

Police allege McDonald and the man fled into bushland, but officers - including the dog squad - quickly tracked them down in heavy bushland about 2km from the scene of the crash.

Officers allegedly found and seized a balaclava and two mobile phones for forensic examination during a search of the vehicle.

The man, who is also from Cessnock, has been charged with the same trespassing count as McDonald.

The 38-year-old was granted conditional bail and will face Cessnock Local Court on July 21.

Police said on Monday their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
