Two castle hotels just outside Glasgow are reopening to guests next month

The chocolates may not be on the pillows just yet, but holidaygoers could be looking ahead to the possibility of a fairytale staycation next month.

Two castle hotels just outside Glasgow have revealed plans to reopen come mid-July.

Glenapp Castle in Ayrshire and Crossbasket Castle in Blantyre are among some of the first hotels to announce that they will welcome guests back following the Scottish Government’s tourism re-start date of July 15.

Both locations have assured guests that safety will be their top priority once their doors reopen.

Glenapp Castle said guests can expect hygiene packs, including sanitizer, masks, temperature strips, sanitizing wipes, to be available in all bedrooms and hygiene stations will be placed throughout the hotel.

Staff will have their temperature taken upon arrival on every shift and the restaurant will not be taking non-residential bookings over the summer period.

Meanwhile Crossbasket Castle will undertake a "mammoth effort" to ensure the hotel is ready for guests.

They will have hands-free sanitising stations in various location across the hotel as well as a one-way system to ensure no close contact between fellow guests and hotel employees.

A staggered dining services and socially distanced tables will be implemented and guests will order food over an app instead of using menus.

The tourism industry will be allowed to reopen as part of a move into phase three of the first minister’s plan to ease restrictions.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “We are trying to give the tourism sector the ability to plan ahead.

“All being equal and all going well we would see a re-opening of the tourist sector from July 15."
