Two cars 'torched' during late night attack on Scots street as police launch probe

A police investigation has been launched after two cars were deliberately targeted by a firebug in Airdrie.

Emergency crews were called to the scene in Cumnock Drive shortly before midnight on Monday, August 9.

Two cars were found to be on fire with investigators later discovering that they had been intentionally set alight.

Officers are now keen to trace a man, who was wearing a dark jacket with reflective stripes, in connection with the incident.

Detective Constable Ben Simpson from Coatbridge CID said: “We are appealing for any witnesses who were in the area late on Monday night, and saw anything suspicious, to please get in touch.

“I would also urge any motorists with dash-cams who were travelling through to check their footage in case they have captured anything of significance.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 4001 of Monday, 9 August 2021.

“Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
