Two cars stolen and torched in Scots city as cops launch probe into incident

Two cars ditched in a park and set on fire had been stolen before they were burned out, police have said.

Emergency services were called to Caird Park in Dundee at around 4.20am on Tuesday May 16 following reports of vehicles being set on fire. Dramatic images shared on social media by Rebreak News showed the silhouettes of both vehicles as they were consumed by flames.

Fire crews used a pair of hose reel jets to put out the blazes, leaving the scene under an hour later. No injuries were reported as a result of the fires, which are believed to have been started deliberately.

Since then, police have determined that both vehicles had been nicked. They have begun an investigation to trace those responsible.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.25am on Tuesday, 16 May, 2023, we were called to a report of two cars on fire at Caird Park, Old Glamis Road, Dundee. Emergency services attended and the blazes were extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no one was injured as a result.

"Early enquiries have established that the two vehicles were stolen. Enquiries are ongoing."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 4.20am on Tuesday May 16 to attend two vehicles on fire in Caird Park, Dundee. We sent one appliance to the scene.

"Crews used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and we left the scene at 5am. There were no reports of any injuries."
