Two cars smash into family homes in scary late-night crash

Two cars have caused major damage to a row of houses after losing control and veering off the road in a late-night horror smash.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at Tarbet Drive, Breightmet, shortly after midnight this morning, May 8, after both cars left the road and crashed into the homes.

People living nearby heard a bang so loud they thought there might have been an earthquake, or even an explosion.

A black BMW X4 came around the bend in the road, allegedly overshooting the corner and ploughing straight through the garden wall of the house in front of it.

The car then smashed into a black Renault Clio parked on the drive, writing it off, before hitting the front wall of the house next door.

A white VW Scirocco, travelling down the road at the same time, crashed through a garden wall and came to a stop in the garden three doors down.

Charley Dawson-Halford, whose garden wall has been destroyed in the crash, heard the collision.

She said: "I heard a massive screech and then a bang that sounded like a earthquake, it was so loud.

"I ran to the window and the black car had crashed into a neighbour's house two doors down.

"I didn't notice the white car until I went outside, it's ruined all our garden wall, thankfully missed our car and gone into next door's garden.

"The black car went through the first wall, hit the car two doors down with some force, battered it so it's a write off, crashed into their porch and hit the bay window of the house next door.

"The crash knocked the full structure out of place, there's cracks everywhere, the radiators are broken.

"Our neighbour's pregnant so it's really shaken her up - the only thing that stoipped the car going into her window and house is a tree that the car got stuck on.

"I'm just happy that no one is injured and the houses haven’t been fully smashed in, it's still scary though."

Police officers and firefighters stayed at the scene until about 5am, making sure the scene was secure and removing the vehicles.

Car parts are still dotted about the street, and the neighbours are out helping each other clear the area.

Witnesses reported seeing people running away from the scene after the incident, and it is not yet clear what happened to the drivers of either car.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment.
