Two cars deliberately torched in Cambuslang

Detectives are appealing for information after two cars were deliberately torched in Cambuslang in the early hours of this morning.

Fire crews raced to Langlea Way, where the Ford Ranger and Nissan X-Trail were set alight at around 1am. The blazes were extinguished but the vehicles were left badly damaged.

Police say a man was spotted leaving a dark-coloured hatchback car on Stewarton Drive shortly before 1am. He walked down a lane to Langlea Way, where the cars were parked. He returned a short time later and the car made off.

It comes following another incident of wilful fire-raising on November 11 at another address in the same street.

Detective Constable John Law of Cambuslang Police Station said they have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and viewing CCTV footage to gather more information.

He said: "Enquiries are ongoing to trace the vehicle and its occupants, and I would urge anyone with information to come forward.

"Officers are also working to establish if this incident is linked to a similar wilful fire raising incident at another address in Langlea Way on 11 November, where a BMW 1 series was set on fire.

"Any witnesses, or anyone with details that may assist this ongoing investigation should contact Cambuslang Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 0208 of 27th December 2019. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."
