Two cars deliberately set ablaze in Govan as police appeal for witnesses

Police in Glasgow are appealing for witnesses after two cars were deliberately set alight in Govan.

The silver Kia Sportage and a white Range Rover Evoque were parked in Craigton Road when they were set ablaze at around 10.15pm on Tuesday September 24.

Fire crews were called to the scene and both cars sustained damage to their bodywork, with the fire also causing damage to the inside of the Kia Sportage.

Inquiries have established that two people were seen in the area at the time of the incident, along with a white five door Vauxhall Corsa car.  One of them is described only as wearing a red puffa-style jacket and had a dark coloured scarf covering their face.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have information regarding it to come forward to help their investigation.

Detective Constable Paul McKenna from Govan CID said: “Thankfully there wasn’t anyone in the cars at the time they were set alight and the heavy rain in the area helped to quickly extinguish the flames.

“We believe that these cars were targeted and would ask anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour in the Craigton Road area on the night of the 24th September 2019, or who knows who is responsible, to contact police as soon as possible.

“Starting fires deliberately is reckless and dangerous. It is fortunate that, on this occasion, nobody was injured.”

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Govan CID on the 101 number, quoting incident number 4238 of 24/9. Alternatively an anonymous report can be made to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
