Two cars crash in head-on collision at crossroads near golf club in Gateshead

Two cars have crashed in a head-on collision near a golf club in Gateshead.

Emergency services were called to the crossroads near Heworth Golf Club, where the A195 meets the B1288, after the incident at about 5pm on Friday.

Pictures from the scene showed that two cars, one black and one dark blue, had crashed in the middle of the junction, partially blocking traffic making its way through the traffic lights.

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service confirmed they had been called to the incident but said it was not serious and nobody had been badly injured.

They said: "We got a call at 5.10pm and we sent one ambulance to the area.

"We treated one person on the scene and we left him there."

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service also sent at least one appliance to the scene.

The incident caused delays along the A195 and the B1288 for a short period as cars manoeuvred around the crashed vehicles but traffic has now reportedly returned to normal.
