Two Carlow GAA clubs shut down activity as player tests positive for coronavirus

Two GAA clubs in Carlow have shut down after a player tested positive for coronavirus.

Both Clonmore GFC and St Brigid's LGFC have suspended all activity after a Clonmore player tested positive for the virus.

A joint statement from the clubs said: "Clonmore GFC can confirm that one of our players has tested positive for Covid-19.

"The club has implemented the GAA guidelines on dealing with a positive case, which have been issued to all units.

"The public health authorities have instigated the contact tracing process and will assume control of the situation from this point.

"We request understanding with regard to the current situation and a level of respect be afforded to both the individual and the club.

"As a precautionary measure, both Clonmore GFC and St Brigid's LGFC have suspended all activity until further notice and the grounds at Woodside, including the Walking Track, are currently closed.

"Further information will be provided as soon as possible."

It comes after another club in Carlow also suspended all activity after a player was identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive for the virus.

Fenagh GAA are shutting down as a precautionary measure until the player has either been discounted as a close contact or tests negative for the killer virus.

They said in a statement: "A member of our Club has today been identified as a suspected close contact of an individual who has tested positive for COVID 19.

"As a precautionary measure and in line with HSE and GAA advise our club will suspend all activity until this player has (a) been discounted as a close contact and / or (b) received a negative result of any COVID test.

"The executive committee have agreed that this is the most prudent and safest action at this point in time."
