Ayrshire Live understands an ambulance was also called out to deal with the aftermath of the collision.

One eyewitness has told how firefighters ran out to the crash site and were in attendance within minutes.

It is not known at this stage if anyone has sustained any injuries during the incident.

Police are still on the scene at the busy junction.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9.55am on Wednesday, July 28, officers were called to a report of a road crash involving two cars on Station Road, Ayr. Officers are at the scene."
