Two-car crash on M8 causes traffic chaos as emergency services rush to scene

Emergency services have rushed to a two-car crash on the M8 this morning.

The collision occurred at around 9.30am this morning between Airdrie and Shotts on the eastbound carriageway.

A statement from Traffic Scotland's Twitter feed immediately following the crash reads: "Reports of an RTC E/B J6-J5 We don't have it on the cameras but traffic does not seem to be getting past Police are en route."

Traffic Scotland confirmed the eastbound stretch of road from J6 to J5 was closed at 10.15am. However, the stretch has since reopened at around 10.30am.

The extent of any injuries as a result of the crash are not currently known, however the ambulance service were seen in attendance at the scene as well as Police Scotland officers and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Traffic continues to move very slowly on the road with 30 minute delays in place vehicles queuing back to Chapelhall.
