Two traffic infringement notices were issued on Saturday to drivers travelling about 45km/h over the speed limit, police said.

The first driver was detected doing 122km/h in an 80km/h zone on Gungahlin Drive at Franklin about 5.50pm. The driver was issued a $700 fine and eight demerit points.

The second incident occurred about 11pm, when police caught a vehicle travelling at 115km/h in a 60km/h zone on Copland Drive at Evatt.

The driver was stopped and received a $1841 fine and 12 demerit points, effectively losing their licence.

Double demerit points are in place in the ACT for speeding and seatbelt offences until midnight on Monday night.
