Two burglars caught by police trying to break into sports centre vending machines with a crowbar

Two "prolific offenders" were caught red-handed by police trying to break into vending machines at a sports centre with a crowbar.

Lee Hanbry, 30 and Mark Morris, 52, were jailed at Cardiff Crown Court after pleading guilty to burglary with intent to steal.

The pair, both from Neath Port Talbot , were caught by officers using a crowbar to break into vending machines at Maesteg Sports Centre at 5.15am on April 29.

According to South Wales Police , Hanbury shouted "come on then’" before both men attempted to flee.

They were quickly caught and arrested and later replied no comment to police when interviewed.

Hanbury was sentenced to 66 weeks and Morris was sentenced to 62 weeks at Cardiff Crown Court on July 30.

Detective constable Samantha Evans, of Bridgend CID, said: “Both defendants are prolific offenders who are now behind bars.

“We treat burglaries extremely seriously and our officers are 100% dedicated to arresting burglars to give peace of mind to victims and to keep our communities safe."
