Two bullmastiffs seized by police after attacking another dog in Sunderland

Police have seized two dogs after an attack in Sunderland.

Two men were also arrested in connection with the incident which left another dog seriously injured.

Police were called on Friday morning after two bullmastiffs attacked the dog which belonged to another member of the public in the Ryhope area.

Officers searched for those responsible and found them nearby before making the arrests. They have since been released.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Shortly after 11.05am on Friday (June 12) we received a report of two bullmastiffs having attacked a dog belonging to another member of the public, causing serious injury on the Grove, Ryhope.

"It was also reported the two dogs were not under the control of an owner so officers attended the scene and conducted a search to locate the dogs and trace their owners.

"Two men were subsequently arrested for suspected offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act but later released without charge and both dogs seized."
