NAVI MUMBAI: The NRI Coastal police in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday arrested two brothers from UP's Meerut for attempting to kill their sister at her rental flat in Ulwe.
The 28-year-old bar girl was found unconscious at her Ulwe flat with injuries on her face and strangulation marks on her neck on May 26 around 7.30pm.
The accused have been identified as Shahrukh Khan (22) and Salman Khan (20).
Ravindra Patil, senior inspector of NRI coastal police station said, "The injured woman Sultana Khan's mobile call data record and tip-off by informers provided us vital lead that Sultana's two brothers had come from Meerut to her Ulwe flat on May 26 early morning. Even Sultana had told her hotelier friend Rohan Hamant over mobile on May 26 around 1.30am that her brothers were coming to meet her. Hence, the duo were the prime suspects. A police team led by API Ganesh Jadhav had gone to Meerut to arrest them. Our police team camped for four days in Meerut to trace the accused who were changing locations. With the help of UP police, our team apprehended them and brought them to Navi Mumbai on June 1."
The inspector further said, "The duo revealed that they were annoyed with Sultana as she had stopped sending them money for the past six months. Also, they felt humiliated in their hometown, Meerut, after she posted her semi-clad photos on Facebook and Instagram. They had even warned her to delete those photos from her social media accounts, but she did not listen to them. Hence, on May 26, her brothers came from Meerut to Ulwe when a verbal spat ensued between Sultana and them. As Shahrukh pushed her, her head banged on the wall after which Salman strangulated her with a mobile charger wire till the time she fell unconscious. They left her injured and escaped to Meerut."
The victim is on ventilator at Dr DY Patil hospital in Nerul after she was admitted by Hamant.
