Two Brits killed in plane crash in France

Two British people have been killed in a plane crash in France.

The 'tragic accident' happened this morning over the Maddalena Pass on France's Alpine border with Italy.

Reports said that the two victims were aged 18 and 37.

An image from the scene showed the wreckage of a plane.

A second plane which is thought to have been flying in formation was forced into an emergency relation in an unrelated incident.

An investigating source told The Mirror : "There were two British citizens on board, one aged 18 and the other 37.

The accident happened near a disused gun battery by the village of Val d’Oronaye.

No other details about any of the victims have yet been released.

The plane had taken off from the Barcelonnette / Saint-Pons aerodrome nearby.

Rescue helicopters were immediately scrambled to the scene, along with firefighters and police units.

The investigation to determine the causes of the accident was entrusted to the air transport research section of the local gendarmerie.
