Two British men die after falling at Spanish beach front while 'trying to take selfie'

Two British men in their 20s have died after falling from a Spanish beach front while reportedly trying to take a seflie.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene on Wednesday evening, while another was airlifted to hospital but died on Thursday of their injuries.

A third man was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

It was reported that they fell from a 10 metre-high (30ft) lifeguard post at around 7:30pm.

Police sources reportedly told Spanish newspaper El Confidencial that it appeared the two men were taking pictures of themselves, according to Spanish newspaper The Local.

But a spokesperson added: "It is too early to speculate on exactly what happened, we are at the beginning stages of the investigation."

The family of the men have now been informed by the Foreign Office, they confirmed.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: "We are supporting the families of two British men following their deaths in Alicante, and are in contact with the Spanish authorities.

"Another British man was involved in the accident, and we are also providing assistance."

The Mirror Online reported that the tourists died after plunging 40ft while taking a selfie at a beauty spot.

Punta Prima is the main beach resort in Sant Lluis, a popular tourist destination.
