Two British men have died in a car crash after their vehicle plummeted off a popular motorway during an alleged illegal car race in the Austrian mountains.
The men, who have not been identified, died after their car fell 1,000ft (300m) off a mountain road near Bruck an Der Glocknerstrasse, in Austria.
Local Austrian radio station ORF said the two men, aged between 22 and 25, broke through the guard rail of the Grossglockner High Alpine road on Friday morning, mear the moutain village of Fusch, roughly 60 miles east of Innsbruck.
Although a helicopter was called to recover the men from the ravine, the two men were reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.
The men were illegally racing another vehicle at the time of the crash. The MailOnline reports that police said a second car had fled the scene.
A Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed to The Independent the deaths of two British nationals. “We are ready to provide consular assistance to the families,” they added.
