(Picture: Getty Images/iStockphoto)The bodies of two British brothers who disappeared in a German lake have been tragically discovered.
The boys, aged 7 and 9, were reported missing by their desperate parents on Thursday evening at the natural outdoor pool on Lake Rursee in Simmerath, close to the Dutch and Belgian borders.
After lifeguards were alerted, a first responder found the “children lifeless in the water”, according to N-TV.
The boys were reportedly resuscitated at first before being flown to two different hospitals by helicopter.
Bild reported that one was taken to an emergency room in Cologne, while the other was taken to Aachen, in a “critical” condition.
They both died later that evening.
The public prosecutor’s office in Aachen, who are investigating whether a criminal offence has been committed, said the boys were visiting Germany as tourists.
A spokeswoman said their deaths “could be a form of negligence”.
“We don’t focus on anyone in particular, we just do our job,” she emphasised.
The deaths come after a 16-year-old also recently died at the beauty spot, with 30 drowning from January to July this year.
