Two Bristol men must pay £2k for breaking Covid rules at another home

Two men must each pay more than £2,000 for breaking Covid rules by going into a home during the second lockdown.

Adrian Chivers, of Grange Avenue in Little Stoke, and Cameron Smith, of Greystoke Avenue in Southmead, had their cases heard at Bath Magistrates' Court on June 10.

Chivers, 28, has an "alias" of Adrian Khan, according to court documents. He was found guilty of participating in an indoor gathering of two or more people at an address on Merlin Close, Westbury-on-Trym.

Smith, 23, was found guilty of the same offence. The two men took part in the gathering on November 13 last year.

Neither man appeared in court, but they were found guilty in absence.

They each received a fine of £1,760 and must pay a victim services charge of £176 and prosecution costs of £90. This means they must each pay £2,026.

The offences came at the height of the second coronavirus wave. The second national lockdown came into force in England on November 5.

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson had announced the lockdown would be put in place to prevent a "medical and moral disaster" for the NHS.
