Two young boys were seriously injured after a discarded box of fireworks exploded in an Edinburgh park.

The youngsters - aged 12 and 13 - were rushed to hospital after the horror incident in Saughton Park on Saturday morning

It’s understood the pair found a box of fireworks in the park and picked it up.

Seconds later it exploded leaving both youngsters with injuries to their hands.

The boys managed to get home before the police and ambulance was called.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said “Officers were called to an address on Saughton Mains Terrace around midday following reports of children being injured by fireworks.

“A 12 and 13-year-old have been taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh.”

The accident was the latest in a list of Fireworks’ related incidents.

A horse called Dettori lost an eye and could be put down after fireworks were let off in a nearby field, in Aberdeen.

His owners posted an angry message on social media alleging that their animal's terrible injuries were caused by the pyro.
