Police have charged two boys in connection with a fire at a historic Scots football stadium.
The pair, aged 12 and 14, were charged with wilful fire raising after a blaze destroyed buildings at the Fife stadium.
Cops say they are saddened to see the Eastvale FC stadium in Windygates targeted on Tuesday at 10pm, as it was an "important part of the village's football heritage".
Sergeant Craig Fyall, of Levenmouth Police Station, said: “This is another reminder of the devastation that can be caused by fire and it is extremely fortunate that no-one was injured on this occasion.
“Eastvale and Greig Park have historically been an important part of the village’s football heritage so it was particularly disappointing to see the facility destroyed by an act of fire raising.
"The response from the community, elected members and businesses following the events on Tuesday to pull together in support of the football club has been quite remarkable and hopefully the facility can be restored as quickly as possible.”
On Wednesday morning, club Chairman David Smith noted how he was left feeling "absolutely devastated" following the fire.
In a post on Facebook, he said: "Devastated doesn’t even come close.
"Well, what a brutal night for Eastvale FC, the committee and helpers who haven’t stopped all year trying to get the place up to scratch for next season!
"We actually just got our application accepted and joined the league at 8pm and by 8.45pm, the building was set on fire!
"Just had all the showers all done and fixed building just been painted inside and scrubbed top to bottom!!
"Sitting here right now absolutely devastated spent so many up there."
