Two boys accused of killing stabbing victim set for trial

Two boys accused of killing a young man in Huyton are set to stand trial.

Connor Dockerty was stabbed to death in Kingsway, just before 8pm, on Monday, April 19 this year.

A post-mortem examination revealed the 23-year-old, from Litherland, died from multiple stab wounds.

A 14-year-old boy, Boy A, who cannot be named for legal reasons due to his age, is charged with murder.

A 16-year-old boy, Boy B, whose age also prohibits his identity from being reported, is charged with manslaughter.

Boy A appeared in the dock at Liverpool Crown Court this morning, while Boy B was produced on video link from custody.

Standing alongside Boy A in the dock was 43-year-old John Batey of no fixed address, but formerly of Huyton.

Batey is accused of assisting an offender on April 22, namely by "removing a Trek bicycle" from an address in Huyton "with intent to impede the apprehension or prosecution" of Boy A.

All three defendants entered not guilty pleas to the charges against them

Their trial, estimated to last 10 days, is set for October 20 this year.

Judge Neil Flewitt, QC, remanded the two boys in custody and Batey on bail.

Police said Mr Dockerty was riding his black Ghost bike along Kingsway, Huyton shortly before he was stabbed.

He was in or close to Gentwoods News and Convenience Store when police said he had a conversation with a group of "males and females".

It is believed that Mr Dockerty then became involved in an argument before the fatal incident.

Bouquets, candles and a photo of Mr Dockerty were later placed outside Liver Launderette, at the corner of the shopping parade, in tribute to the young man.

One message signed "from Bean" said: "Never enough to describe how much your [sic] gonna be missed lad, can't believe it, fly high bro. Rest easy, Con"
