The Boston Celtics have had some pretty important power forwards in their storied franchise’s history, including Paul Silas, Bailey Howell, Antoine Walker and Tommy Heinsohn.
So seeing none of those names in the new HoopsHype list of the 20 greatest power forwards in the history of the NBA is a bit of a surprise, particularly the omission of Heinsohn, a major figure in the history of the Celtics’ era of dominance in the 1960s. But a pair of former Celtics did make the H/H cut for the top-20 all-time power forwards.

No. 10 - Kevin McHale
“Celtics legend Kevin McHale was known for putting opponents in something called the torture chamber,” writes H/H, “which basically meant when McHale would post up, it was torture for foes to defend due to his sharp elbows, long arms, and ridiculous array of moves in the paint.”
“Few historically can match McHale’s mix of post-up moves, including up-and-unders, step-throughs and drop-steps galore.”
No. 3 - Kevin Garnett
“One of the first unicorns in the NBA, Kevin Garnett had the size of the center and all-around skills of a guard, even bringing the ball down before big men were really allowed to do that,” suggests HoopsHype.
“His championship ring with the Celtics came late, but it was beyond deserved.”
