Two bodies found in River Thames

Two bodies have been found in the River Thames in Essex.

The body of a woman was discovered in the water at Wharf Road, in Grays, at about 7.30am.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead.

While at the scene, officers discovered a second body, a police spokeswoman said. No further details were given.

A police spokeswoman told The Independent the deaths are not believed to be linked and are being treated as non-suspicious.

A file will now be prepared for the coroner.

Essex Police said in a statement: “Police were contacted at just before 7.30am today, Thursday 13 February, following reports that a body of a woman had been discovered in the river at Wharf Road, Grays.

“Officers and paramedics attended the scene but the woman was sadly pronounced dead.

“Whilst at the scene, officers discovered a second body.

“At this time the deaths are not believed to be linked and are being treated as separate incidents.

“Police, paramedics, fire crews and the Coastguard remain at the scene.”
