Two bodies have been discovered by police responded to a disturbance at a north Queensland home.

Police found the bodies of a man and a woman - together with their uninjured five-year-old son - after being called to a Townsville property about 9.15am on Tuesday.

Police haven't ruled out the involvement of another person, but early indications suggest only the man and woman were involved in the deaths, Detective Inspector David Miles told reporters.

He said the cause of death of the 48-year-old man and 46-year-old woman was yet to be determined.

"There hasn't been any medical examinations or autopsies at this stage," Insp Miles added.

He said one of the people found dead resided in the home where the bodies were found.

The relationship between the man and woman would be further investigated, but they had "not overly" come to the attention of police previously.

The boy is being cared for by family.

"Any death is a tragedy ... (and) in this instance ... we have a young person who is without parents and obviously he's been subjected to an extremely tragic set of circumstances," Insp Miles said.
