Two-bedroom house on sale for just £40,000 - but has been left in hideous disrepair

A two-bed home about to be auctioned at the bargain price of just £40,000 is in major need of renovation.

The terraced property in Darlington, County Durham, appears at first glance to be a complete steal.

But flipping through the snaps, house hunters will be dismayed at the state it's been left in.

There is moss and mould growing in the bedrooms, as well as the hallway, while wires and pipework are exposed in the kitchen and bathroom.

The property is said to be close to the town centre and Darlington Memorial Hospital, while North Lodge Park is just a stone's throw away.

The owner will not be considering offers before the auction on May 12.

For those with the funding and patience, it could be an attractive prospect - and includes a back yard area - if they can see beyond the problems.

The images shared as part of the ad on RightMove show bright green smears across the floor and on one wall in the main bedroom.

There are patches of mould and moss across other areas too, including black mould in the hallway.

The property will be auctioned by Allsop.

Earlier this year, an even cheaper property went on sale in Blackpool for just £17,950 - and but which also needed hefty amounts of work before it would habitable.

The property was listed for auction in February on behalf of Pattinson Auctions and Kenricks, and is situated in South Shore.

The fixer-upper came with a detached building and approximately 64sq metres of exterior land.

The property has convenient links to tourist hotspots such as the town centre, promenade, central pier, Madame Tussauds and the Sea Life centre.

Meanwhile, as reported yesterday, a hoarder's house in Edinburgh, Scotland, was deemed so unliveable the owner was removed and the property condemned.

The one-bedroom house, which was only abandoned a year ago, looks as though it has been empty for decades - covered in dirt and cobwebs.

Dotted around the cluttered house are dilapidated typewriters, ornaments and food tins, as well as an old wooden piano.

The photos were taken by urban explorer Grant Vincent, who spotted the house.

The house was inhabited by a young teacher who appeared to be fine to the outside world, until social services visited and removed her and her dogs from the property.
