
Two babies were found abandoned on Sunday, one in the Northeast and the other in the North, just a few days ahead of Children's Day, Jan 13, when they are customarily showered with love by their parents.
A newborn boy was found by a cleaner in the toilet of a store in Nang Rong district in Buri Ram on Sunday. He was taken to Nang Rong Hospital, and may have already found a home.
Boonlieng Rukkachat said she noticed a woman leaving after being in the toilet for a long time. About half an hour later she went in to clean the room, and found the freshly born child in a plastic bag.
Pol Capt Decha Thongparpa, the deputy police chief of Nang Rong, said footage from security cameras inside the store had been examined and other hospitals contacted in case the woman sought medical treatment after giving birth, but the mother had not been identified.
Staff at Nang Rong Hospital have unofficially named him Korbsuk, meaning full of happiness in Thai, and nicknamed him "Lucky".
Hospital deputy director Noppadon Phitsanuwong said on Monday the baby weighed in at 3 kilogrammes. His condition was safe and he was being cared for in an incubator at the hospital.
Dr Noppadon said the hospital had received a phone call from a person in Nang Rang indicating a willingness to adopt the baby, and the hospital had informed the social development and human security office in Buri Ram of the case. He gave no further details of the potential adopter. (continues below)

In Phitsanulok, a boy about one-year-old was found beside a local road in Ban Chaiyanam in tambon Chaiyanam in Wang Thong district on Sunday, Pol Capt Wiralpetch Worapongpakorn, the Wang Thong deputy police chief, said.
Villager Raya Khammuang told police the boy was found with two toys beside him. She changed his clothes and gave him milk to drink before bringing him to the police station.
The child is being taken care of by social welfare officials in Phitsanulok. His future is unclear.
