Two men have been arrested by police investigating a car bomb attack being linked to a shooting near a gym.
A window of the car was smashed and an explosive device thrown inside on Castle Street, Bolton, at around 9pm on July 23.
No one was injured and the resulting blaze was put out.
Detectives are linking the incident to an earlier shooting on July 12 near to the Outline Health and Fitness Centre on Lever Street, Bolton.
A man in his 20s was shot twice and taken to hospital with serious injuries. The gunman, wearing dark clothing, walked up to the victim's car and fired through the window three times.
In an update, police said he remained in hospital in a 'stable' condition.
Police said on Wednesday that two men were now being questioned by detectives in custody.

Both were arrested early today.
A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and a 37-year-old man was held on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to injury and damage, and conspiracy to commit arson.
Detectives are now appealing for the public's help to trace the current whereabouts and movements of a dark red car.

The Vauxhall Mokka - registration number DW68 GDY - was seen on St Mark's Street before the shooting and afterwards heading in the direction of Manchester.
A GMP spokesman said: "Officers would like to hear from anyone with information about this vehicle or its current whereabouts.
"The vehicle was reported stolen three weeks before the shooting, and police are keen to hear from anyone with details on its movements from June 21 until now.

"The shooting is believed to be linked to an incident in which an improvised explosive device was thrown into a BMW."
Detective Chief Inspector Alan Clitherow said: "The level of violence seen in these incidents is particularly shocking and has no place on our streets.
"We have a team of detectives dedicated to finding the people responsible and although we've made two significant arrests, our enquiries are very much ongoing.
"I'd like to appeal for the public's help in tracing the dark red Vauxhall Mokka.
"If you saw this car in the area of St Mark's Street or Lever Street on July 12, or if you have seen it since the shooting, then please get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.
"I would ask people not to approach the car, and if you see it then please call police immediately."
Police said the car bomb attack and shooting were not being linked to terrorism.
