He remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Police said they had arrested two men, aged 54 and 55, on suspicion of assault.

The 54 year-old man was released on bail, while the 55 year-old man was released under investigation.

It is believed the victim was attacked near to a bus stop on Eaton Road, leaving him with serious injuries to his spine, chest and head.

After his attackers ran from the scene, the victim stumbled down the road before collapsing outside Bobbers Hairdressers and being rushed to hospital.

Last week forensic detectives were spotted combing the bus stop for clues, seven days after the assault.
