Two arrests after suspected stolen Mercedes abandoned in police chase

Two men have been arrested after a suspected stolen Mercedes was abandoned in a police chase. The car was first spotted by officers on Lord Sheldon Way in Ashton-under-Lyne at around 4.30am this morning (Thursday). A pursuit took place through Tameside before the car was abandoned on Brook Avenue in Droylsden.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of taking the Mercedes without consent. Police dogs were at the scene as well as officers.

Eyewitnesses reported spotting at least five police vehicles in the area this morning. A tweet posted by GMP's Tameside unit said: "#ARRESTS | Two men are in custody after divisional patrols in Tameside spotted a suspected stolen car on Lord Sheldon Way, Ashton-under-Lyne, this morning.

"The car was abandoned in Droylsden and two males arrested thanks to help from @GMPDogs. Both are in custody being questioned."
