Man bashed with baseball bat and tied up in Deloraine home invasion

A man is recovering after being tied up and bashed by a trio of intruders who police say broke in to a house in Deloraine early on Friday morning.

Tasmania Police said they had arrested a man and a woman as part of their investigation into the attack, which resulted in a 56-year-old man being hospitalised with "significant injuries".

Police and emergency services were called to the house on Parsonage Street about 7:00am where they found the man, who police said had been "injured several hours earlier".

"Police investigators have established that at around 4:00am today one woman and two men forcefully entered the Parsonage Street residence," Acting Detective Inspector John Parker said in a statement.

"As the resident confronted the intruders he was struck with a baseball bat several times. He was tied up with rope, causing him to lose consciousness."

Police said the house was then "ransacked and property stolen including antiques, power tools, televisions and other household items", with the offenders leaving the scene in the man's 2007 Subaru Outback.

The investigation led detectives to an address at Phillips Street in the suburb of Perth, about 40 kilometres away, where a 36-year-old man and 45-year-old woman were taken into custody, police said.

Police said they located the car and a "significant amount of the stolen property" in the vicinity of the Perth property.

"Police are working to identify the other man involved," Inspector Parker said.

Anyone who has information about the incident, or who observed suspicious activity in Parsonage Street, Deloraine, or Phillips Street, Perth, between midnight and 7:00am on Friday is urged to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
