Two arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after Tameside shooting

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a shooting outside a pub in Tameside .

Armed police raced to Kings Road, in Ashton-under-Lyne, after a gunman opened fire outside the Hare and Hounds pub, at around 8.30pm on Friday September 27.

Three men were standing outside the pub when a blue Audi pulled up outside.

A man holding a handgun got out of the passenger side and fired a shot towards the group, police say.

The M.E.N understands that the armed man ‘tripped’ as he jumped out of the car.

The bullet entered the pub through a window.

One of the victims ran in the pub and the other two fled from the scene.

But the gunman pursued the fleeing men down the road and further shots were fired at the junction of Rowley Street and Kings Road.

The offender then got back in the vehicle - which was being driven by another person.

The pair fled from the scene in the direction of Rowley Street.

Police say nobody was injured during the incident.

A man aged 26 has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Another man, aged 24, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody for questioning.

Inspector Zoe MacDonald, of Greater Manchester Police’s Tameside District, urged anyone with information to come forward.

“While we have arrested two people our enquiries remain ongoing and we would encourage anyone with information to get in touch with police immediately,” she said.

Contact police on 0161 856 9353 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
