Two arrested in connection with murder of Patrick Heeran, who went missing in 2011

Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Patrick Heeran, who disappeared over eight years ago.

Patrick Heeran, 48, was last seen in Mohill, Co Leitrim in October of 2011.

A murder investigation was launched five years after his disappearance in 2016.

A man in his mid 20s and a woman also in her mid 20s have been arrested in Co Leitrim.

In a statement, gardai said: "Gardaí in the Leitrim District have made two arrests as part of an ongoing investigation into the murder of Patrick Heeran, who was last seen in Mohill, Co Leitrim on the 3rd October 2011.

"The man is detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, while the woman is held under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939.

"The investigation is ongoing."
