Two arrested following raid at Lawrence Weston newsagent

Two people have been arrested and since released following a raid at a newsagent in Lawrence Weston in the early hours of yesterday (Saturday, February 20).

A McColls store on Beverston Gardens in Lawrence Weston was broken into shortly before 5am.

Police say they are carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area following the incident.

According to a local who posted on a Lawrence Weston Facebook group, it looked as if the outdoor shutters had been ‘completely bent’, while shelves inside the store had been broken and lots of produce stolen.

The same convenience store was broken into four years ago after a vehicle was driven into it, causing major damage to the shop.

Responding to the incident, a spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police said: “An investigation is ongoing following a burglary at McColls store, Beverston Gardens, Lawrence Weston which happened at approximately 4.40am on Saturday 20 February.

A woman in her 20s and a man in his 40s were arrested in connection with the incident and have been released under investigation.

Officers are carrying out house-to-house and CCTV enquiries. Anyone with information about the incident who has not yet made contact with police should call 101, quoting crime reference number 5221036936.”

McColls was approached for comment.
