A man and a woman who were arrested after a firearm was found at a Gateshead home have now been released by police.
The pair were taken into custody on Friday and were helping officers with their inquiries after an incident at Saltwell Place, in Bensham , Gateshead .
Northumbria Police were initially called to the scene following a report of a disturbance and taped off the street.
A home was searched and a firearm was later discovered. A 37-year-old man and 39-year-old woman were arrested.
Now police have confirmed they have been released.
However, their investigations are continuing.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson added: "Both have been released with no further action to be taken. Inquiries are ongoing."
Residents in the area told ChronicleLive how armed officers appeared in their street on Friday morning and they were told to stay indoors while the incident was under way.
One woman said: "I was woken up by all the noise at around 8.30am. When I went to have a look, there were police dogs and armed officers outside.
"They told me a firearm had been found. The whole street was blocked off and we were told to stay inside until the incident finished.
"It scared me to see what was happening. It makes you think - are we going to be safe?"
Another resident added: "There were armed police here and they told us to stay inside our homes as they were dealing with an incident.
"They said I could not move my car. I just went back in.
"It's pretty scary when you see things like that right on your doorstep."
Police reassured people there was not a wider threat to the public.
