Two arrested at Manchester Airport on suspicion of drugs and firearms offences as they try to leave country

Two men have been arrested at Manchester Airport today on suspicion of firearms, drugs, and money laundering.

The pair were held by officers from the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit following a search of an address in Manchester this afternoon.

They were attempting to leave the country but for operational reasons their intended destination is not being revealed.

Officers, backed by Greater Manchester Police raided a property in Northenden.

In a statement the NWROCU said: "A 49-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, both from Northenden were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply firearms, conspiracy to supply Class A and B drugs; money laundering, and blackmail. Both have been taken to police stations for questioning."

NWROCU tackles serious organised crime across the North West and carries out investigations on behalf of GMP, Cheshire, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cumbria, and North Wales Police.
