Two arrested as police swoop on suspects in hit and run that left girl in Alder Hey

A man and a woman have been arrested after a girl was injured in a shocking hit and run.

The suspects are set to be questioned by detectives probing the crash, which left the 13-year-old victim with serious injuries.

The teenager remained in Alder Hey children's hospital this evening.

She had been left in the road after being struck by a Mercedes in Widnes just before 1pm.

Emergency services attended the Hale Road scene with police cordoning off the area and paramedics supporting the teenager before she was taken away in an ambulance.

As she was being treated detectives launched a search for the driver and the damaged vehicle involved in the crash.

Cheshire Police tonight said officers located a car matching the description of the grey Mercedes linked to the collision in the Hunts Cross area.

A 33-year-old man from Widnes has now been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and being unfit to drive through drink or drugs in relation to the incident.

A 32-year-old woman from Prescot has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The pair have been taken into custody.

Detective Inspector Nick Henderson said: “I would like to thank all the members of the public who have given us information and footage in relation to the serious collision so far.

“It is much appreciated and has helped us get to a stage whereby we believe that we have located the vehicle involved in the collision and arrested two people in relation to it.

“However, we believe that there may be more members of the public with information and dashcam footage to aid our investigation.

“We are still in the early stages of the investigation and urge anyone else who thinks they may have relevant information or footage, no matter how small, to get in touch.”

*Anyone with information or dashcam footage that could help the investigation is asked to call Cheshire Constabulary on 101, quoting the reference number 948597, or online here.
